Who Is Wayne Brady?

Wayne Alphonso Brady is an American actor, TV personality, comedian, and singer. He is best known for being on the American version of the comedy series Whose Line Is It Anyway? He joined the show not long after he relocated to Los Angeles from Florida.

He was born on June 2, 1972 in Columbus, Georgia. He is of African-American descent. His mother, Lindamarie Newton, and father, Wayne Brady Sr., agreed to move him to live with his grandmother Valerie Peterson and his aunt in Florida.

He considered his grandma a mom because she raised him. There, he attended Dr. Phillips High School and, at 16, was already performing at the community theater. 

He later made his way under the Orlando SAK Comedy Lab, where he developed his improv skills. He finally graduated from high school in 1989 and gained admission into the University of Miami a year after.

Brady originally appeared as a contestant on Kwik Witz, a sketch comedy competition that aired on television. He appeared from 1996 to 1999 as one of the improvisational theater performers who worked alongside Ryan Stiles and the host, Clive Anderson, on the British version of Whose Line Is It Anyway? before the last season was made in Hollywood.

But that season finale was the break of a new dawn for Wayne Brady. The show was rebooted for the American audience when Brady had his first big break giving him considerable popularity.

Brady went on to guest-star on The Drew Carey Show from 1999 to 2000, where he played characters and games from Whose Line Is It Anyway? on Drew Live and Drew Live II. 

He seemed to be kicking off his career with a good start with many appearances, and in 2001, he starred in his own show, The Wayne Brady Show. Soon enough, he had his daytime talk show which aired for two seasons. 

The show became popular and a big success winning him four Daytime Emmy awards. In 2003, Brady bagged a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Individual Performance in a Variety of Music Program for his appearance on Whose Line Is It Anyway?

He starred in the show How I Met Your Mother, playing the role of James Stinson, and played a guest role in American Dad. He also scored a role in Robot Chicken and did a voice role in the Nickelodeon animated TV series The Loud House. He also voiced one of the main characters in the Sofia the First cartoon series from 2013 to 2018.

Wayne Brady has had his fair share of relationship escapades in his lifetime. He’d been married to Diana Lasso for nearly two years, from Dec. 31, 1993 to Sept. 21, 1995, before their divorce. 

On April 3, 1999, for the second time, Wayne tied the knot again, this time with Mandie Taketa, a dancer. They have a daughter together, which they named Maile Masako Brady. 

But the bond that they shared with the child wasn’t enough to keep their relationship afloat. On April 5, 2007, reports said Wayne and his wife had separated, and true enough, on June 2 of the same year, she filed for divorce. The split was finalized in 2008 and Wayne Brady is currently single.

Wayne Brady once stated that he suffers from clinical depression. He suffered a severe case of anxiety as a child and even stammered while talking due to being bullied a lot.
