Six bidders registered to buy at auction the three-bedroom home at 29 Arnold St, set on more than 1000sq m of land next to a church.

Bidding opened at the auction guide of $3.6m and, after a quick-fire auction, the hammer fell at $4.6m.

Nicky Tanner of Marshall. Chan. Yahl. said the address was blue ribbon and north facing and within the catchment zone for the coveted Killara High School.

“The market is property-specific at the moment,” she said. “Some homes are selling well while others are stalling.

“We had downsizers interested, families and extended families.”

The circa 1906 house was owned by the late Meg Hornbrook, who had purchased the family home for $715,000 in 1992.

It had bay windows, wall panelling and sandstone foundations.

The new owners, a family with two children, intend to renovate.

PropTrack’s latest figures show that the median house price in Killara is down 8.6per cent to $4.05m based on 67 sales over 12 months.
