Now that engaged Claire Danes is about to have a marriage of her own, she’s no longer okay with cheating and infidelities. Several years ago Danes was considered the cause behind Billy Crudup’s leaving Mary Louise Parker – then seven months pregnant at the time – for Danes. The pair moved in together, but the old saying about “once a cheater, always a cheater” proved true: she cheated on Crudup with Hugh Dancy, who she met while filming “Evening.” Now she and Dancy are engaged, and suddenly Claire’s had a change of heart on the whole cheating issue.
CLAIRE Danes, who was famously blamed for breaking up ex-boyfriend Billy Crudup’s relationship with a pregnant Mary-Louise Parker, has subsequently given a lot of thought to the subject of monogamy. “I was talking to my friend about [whether it] is feasible, is it realistic?” Danes muses in September’s BlackBook, adding, “I resolved that there isn’t really a better model. We just can’t shake monogamy. It definitely demands a kind of rigor and discipline and selflessness. But it’s also fun.” Danes is now engaged to Brit actor Hugh Dancy.

Waste. Of. Time. I have a hard time believing that Claire is capable of the selflessness she mentioned. It’s hard to champion a woman who cheats with a guy who has a seven-months pregnant girlfriend. People will make all sorts of arguments about “Oh, their relationship must have already been broken if he cheated,” and “he’s just as responsible as she is,” yada yada. All true. So she bears some of the blame.
I always felt so badly for Mary Louise Parker, who by all accounts was very gracious about the whole thing, especially considering she and Billy had been together for seven years. Claire had been with singer Ben Lee for about the same length of time. It seems like she can be faithful, but only for relatively short periods. Of course now her whole opinion’s changed. Perhaps as Claire gets older she realizes what goes around comes around, and that’s got to be frightening for her. But really, what a terrible quote to give. She’s just asking to open herself up to all kinds of scrutiny and claims of hypocrisy.
